Position Overview 

We are searching for a Development & Community Relations Intern to join our team. This position is open to all majors. This is a paid 10-week summer internship with the expectation of 40 hours a week beginning on June 2, 2025, and ending on August 8, 2025.

‍The Development & Community Relations Intern will support key projects focused on event coordination, donor engagement, and hospitality management. The intern will assist in developing and executing fundraising campaigns, managing logistics for events, and enhancing donor communications to strengthen relationships with supporters. Students in this position will be provided with a broad understanding of the development and event operations of a mid-sized performing arts organization and gain immediate knowledge through hands-on experience. The ideal candidate can multi-task, is a quick learner, and is highly motivated. An interest in classical music and the arts is a plus, but music experience is not required.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 
  • Assist in developing and executing fundraising campaigns to increase donor engagement and support for CMI’s mission.
  • Manage logistics and hospitality for CMI events, ensuring a seamless experience for donors, musicians, and audiences.
  • Support donor communications by drafting and proofreading acknowledgment letters, event invitations, and program reports.
  • Maintain and update donor databases to ensure accurate and timely information.
  • Collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data for event reporting purposes.
  • Provide hands-on support for event setup, guest check-in, and post-event follow-up.
Expected Projects and Activities: 
  • Assist in writing and implementing fundraising campaigns and initiatives to increase donor engagement and support for CMI’s mission.
  • Help manage logistics and hospitality for CMI events, ensuring a seamless experience for donors, musicians, and audiences.
  • Contribute to donor communications, helping with acknowledgment letters, event invitations, and reporting on CMI’s programming.
Requirements
  • Eligibility: To be eligible to apply, applicant must be an undergraduate student and a resident of Bexar County. This includes students who are currently enrolled as undergraduate college students who are Bexar County residents, attending a college or university in Bexar County or outside of the county, as long as the student is a resident of Bexar County.
  • Equipment: A reliable laptop and cell phone are needed and will not be provided.
  • Transportation: Reliable transportation is required to and from event locations. Events will take place around San Antonio, including the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts and Edgewood Fine Arts Academy.‍
  • Flexibility: Some events are held on weekends and in the evenings. Interns may be asked to fulfill duties at these events, with adherence to a 40-hour work week schedule.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities: 
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Willingness to learn Canva. Previous experience is welcome!
  • Knowledge of major social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.)
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, etc.) and Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, etc.)
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus
  • An interest in the performing arts and/or nonprofit industry is a plus

Classical Music Institute’s (CMI) mission is to cultivate classical music education and performance as  a gateway to the arts. Established as the education program of the Chamber Orchestra of San  Antonio, CMI debuted in 2016. CMI provides classical music education to Bexar County’s youth  during a two-week summer festival and year-long outreach program, using music as an instrument  for social transformation, providing access to classical music education of the highest artistic  caliber, and promoting it as an integral part of the cross-cultural essence of San Antonio.
