Donald Mason is an arts administrator and non-profit champion, with two decades of experience across a spectrum of industries and organizations. Over the past five years, Donald served as Executive Director of the Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center. He created ongoing educational and entertainment programs, developed relationships to expand the organization’s reach, and made the venue back into a household name and an arts force in the region.
Donald is completing a 10-month Community Engagement Fellowship in February 2020 that allowed further nonprofit service and will help build capacity in those organizations for seasons to come.
Originally from Midland, TX, Donald has lived in Lexington, KY since the 1990s and makes his Texas return to San Antonio, TX for 2020. Donald is a dogfather to Maxwell and Bella, both beautiful boxers as well as three red-eared slider turtles, Cannonball, Miles and Mingus.
Passion for the arts and education drew me to Classical Music Institute when I discovered the Executive Director position opening. The timing of this opportunity to unite my passion and experience in such a culturally rich city in San Antonio is a blessing. I am excited to get to know the community and continue to build onto something special that CMI has started.
CMI is a growing strong with a solid foundation and ready for the next level. I am honored to take the role of Executive Director, bringing a vision and working together with everyone to build pathways for the future.
From the performances at the Tobin Center, to Edgewood School of the Performing Arts, and even deeper in the community, I want CMI to reach as many people as possible. Classical music education and performance are joys to my spirit and to my brain. Being able to share with others feeds my soul and inspires me to push forward.
