Violinist Luis Eduardo Cuevas began his musical journey by winning the Maurice Hasson National Competition at just nine years old. Inspired by his father, he immersed himself in Venezuelan folk music, earning multiple first prizes in national competitions. Trained at the Mozarteum Music School in Caracas, Cuevas continued his studies in Philadelphia at Temple University under Dr. Schmieder. Notable achievements include first place at the Temple University Concerto Competition and international contests like The Young Virtuosos of Tomorrow, the Buenos Aires International Competition, and the Sphinx Competition semifinals. As an orchestra musician, Cuevas has performed with esteemed ensembles such as the Simon Bolivar Orchestra, Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, Curtis Symphony Orchestra, Austin Symphony.
Cuevas is currently a member of the The Orchestra San Antonio. Passionate about teaching, he shares his expertise in strings, conducting, and orchestral preparation, nurturing musicians of all ages. Now, as an Ascend Artist Faculty––The Orchestra San Antonio's official education program––Cuevas will continue this work by inspiring and guiding the next generation of performers.
