Luis Primera began his double bass studies at age 14 at the Latin American Academy of Double Bass with Felix Petit. Early in his career, he served as principal bassist with the Carabobo Orchestra of Venezuela. He then spent five years as a member of the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, touring extensively across the Middle East, United States, South America, and Europe, performing in major concert halls worldwide.
In 2016, Luis moved to Los Angeles to further his studies at the Colburn School, where he earned a Performance Diploma and Professional Study Certificate under the mentorship of Maestro Peter Lloyd.
Following his studies, Luis has been performing widely throughout the United States, joining numerous orchestras including: Omaha Symphony Orchestra, San Diego Symphony Orchestra, Kansas City Symphony Orchestra, Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, Hawaii Symphony Orchestra, Charleston Symphony Orchestra, and Richmond Symphony Orchestra.
In 2022, Luis was a double bass fellow with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra (2022–2023) and later served as an acting member of the bass section at the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra for the 2023–2024 season. He is currently a member of The Orchestra San Antonio, where he leads the bass section as principal bassist. Additionally, he is an Ascend Artist Faculty, The Orchestra San Antonio's official education program, and an adjunct faculty member at Gardner-Webb University in North Carolina.
As a soloist, Luis has performed works such as Nino Rota’s “Divertimento Concertante” and has earned several awards, including first prize at the Charleston competition in 2024.
